Medical director supervision

Every treatment at Canvas & Glow is done under the supervision of a medical director. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, and my medical director is a physician with 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. The oversight is the same whichever town you drove in from.

Why I don't start big

More can always be added at two weeks. Less can't be the plan if day one is already too much. So I build slowly and stop at a lip that fits your face, not a trend shape. If you want more after it settles, we add it at your follow-up.

Bring photos if they help: your own lips from a few years ago, or a shape you like. We'll talk honestly about what your lips can carry.

Cost

Filler is priced per syringe and quoted at the free consult. I don't post filler dollar amounts that aren't on the menu. See the pricing page for how pricing works. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.

Comfort

Numbing cream goes on first, and some fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine. Lips are a sensitive area, but most people find it easier than they feared. We can pause any time.

Swelling and timing

Plan on a few days of swelling, sometimes a bruise. The FDA lists both among the most common filler side effects and says many clear up within days to weeks. The FDA's dermal filler dos and don'ts also notes that swelling can flare after an illness, a vaccine, or dental work, so tell me if one of those is coming up.

Since the follow-up is at two weeks, it helps to book both Davidson trips at once.

How long it lasts

The FDA says how long a filler lasts depends on the filler material and where it's injected, and that absorbable fillers break down over time, so the treatment may need repeating. HA filler can usually be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, which is a procedure with its own risks.

The first visit

We start by talking. I look at your lips at rest and in motion, and we agree on a plan before I pick up a needle. Then I place a conservative amount and stop.

Safety

The FDA's page on dermal fillers explains the risks. Wait, or bring it up at your consult, if:

  • You're under 22. The FDA approves dermal fillers for adults 22 and older.
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA says filler safety is unknown during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Your skin is inflamed or infected where we'd treat, including active acne, a rash, or hives.
  • You have a bleeding disorder, severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis, or an allergy to lidocaine.
  • You tend to form keloids or raised scars.
  • There's a cold sore, swelling, or any sign of infection on or around your lips.

The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching as common filler side effects, and says many clear up within days to weeks. The most serious risk is filler getting into a blood vessel. The FDA calls that chance low, but it can cause tissue damage, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Get care right away for unusual pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns white, gray, or blue. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site. The rest of my menu is on the services page.
