Whether it's a flip on its own or part of a bigger visit, it's done under the supervision of a medical director. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, following physician-directed protocols. My medical director has 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.
A lot of people first hear about a lip flip while they're in for frown lines or crow's feet. Because every neurotoxin I carry is $13 per unit, adding a flip just adds its 4 to 6 units to the same quote. There's no separate visit fee, and it shares the same two-week follow-up.
If it's your first time with neurotoxin, a flip on its own is a low-stakes way to see how you respond. Details on the other areas are on Botox in Davidson.
The flip relaxes the muscle that rolls your top lip in when you smile, so a little more lip shows. It doesn't add volume. For more lip at rest, the treatment is HA filler for lip volume.
4 to 6 units, per my pricing page, at $13 per unit: $52 to $78 on its own. If you add it to other areas, the total is simply the units used times $13, and I confirm it at the free consult before injecting. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.
More than a forehead treatment, most people say, because lips have more nerve endings. It's a handful of quick, sharp pinches and done in a couple of minutes.
You can go back to work afterward. Tiny bumps where the needle went in usually fade quickly, and bruising is possible. If an event is coming, give it two weeks.
It builds over several days and settles at about two weeks. MedlinePlus says cosmetic Botox for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet may be repeated every 3 to 4 months, depending on how long the effect lasts. That guidance covers those areas, not this one, so I won't promise a number.
The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists the approved cosmetic areas: frown lines, crow's feet, forehead lines, and neck (platysma) bands. The upper lip isn't on that list, so this is an off-label use. Off-label use is common in aesthetics, and I'd rather tell you up front than have you find out later.
Neurotoxin is a prescription drug, and it's safest in licensed hands with real product. Botox and Dysport are prescription drugs. MedlinePlus summarizes the patient information for onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) and abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport). Tell me before anything is injected if:
If you sing, play a wind instrument, or talk for a living, mention it too, since the flip relaxes the muscle you use to purse your lips. The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists side effects such as eyelid or brow drooping and headache.
